05 / OSAIO · LEAD PRODUCT DESIGN CONSULTANT · 2025–PRESENT

Hired to redesign 10 screens. Ended up redesigning the architecture.

I was hired to modernize a smart-home app but ended up leading product experience for OSAIO 4.0—restructuring it as a platform and giving the team a system to keep building.

01 — THE SETUP

Redesigning the screens would have made it prettier, but it wouldn't have made it work better.

OSAIO is a smart-home brand under Apeman. I was hired to overhaul the experience in its existing app.

There was no product manager, so I worked directly with the CEO, engineering, and the industrial design director. My role quickly expanded into product strategy, prioritization, and the communication required to keep decisions moving.

The existing app was built around OSAIO's own cameras, but the business wanted a platform that could support many kinds of smart-home devices.

02 — THE CHALLENGE

With little data, every decision could become a matter of opinion.

So we created tenets to decide which battles mattered—and built prototypes when words weren't enough.

  1. Make the task easier.Fewer taps do not matter if people spend more time understanding, searching, deciding, or waiting.
  2. Make information useful.Users should quickly understand what happened, decide whether it matters, and know what to do next.
  3. Keep it simple without distractions.Keep important information and actions clear; move secondary features out of the way.
  4. Make the product feel smart, but not overwhelming. If OSAIO can do something for the user, it should. Do the work in the background, then tell them what happened.

03 — WHAT I DID

Filled the gaps that kept the team from moving forward.

  1. Reworked the platform architecture.Redesigned the home, navigation, onboarding, account creation, device setup, and management flows so cameras could become one category inside a larger smart-home system.
  2. Designed and launched OSAIO 4.0.Completed the core app redesign in roughly two months, balancing the immediate camera experience with room for future devices and features.
  3. Made prototypes the decision tool.Interactive behavior let stakeholders experience a proposal on their phones, making consequences clearer and reviews faster.
  4. Refined the brand without erasing it.Modernized the identity, palette, typography, spacing, and visual language, then delivered a complete brand book for the internal team.
  5. Built systems the team could maintain.Created a reusable product design system for the in-house designers.

04 — THE RESULT

The redesign became a launched app—and a foundation the team could keep building on.

OSAIO 4.0 has launched, and the brand book and product design system have been handed off. The website is still in progress. There are no outcome metrics yet, so the result here is the work delivered and the foundation now in place.

Best evidence: product judgment, founder alignment, and systems the team could continue using.

05 — LOOKING BACK

A strong design opinion was not enough.

The team needed a shared way to decide what made the product better—during the redesign and after handoff.
The principles and systems mattered as much as the screens.
